![]() FROM THE EDITORS DESK · LARRY WILSON ...a hilarious and practical alternative When you see a truly original new non-fiction book, the idea seems so obvious, so 'Why didn't I think of that?' Such is the case with Altadena teacher and writer Judie O'Neill and her collaborator Bridget Fonger's 'The Lazy Woman's Guide to Just About Everything: Practical Tips and Lazy Wisdom for a Life of Ease' (Elephant Eye Press). If you will never be anything close to those annoyingly energetic women wizards on TV, who clearly forsake sleep, not to mention ease, in favor of hand-crafted everything, and yet at the same time you don't want to chuck it all and move into a studio apartment, this book is for you. If you crave a read that is both practical, silly and spiritually deep, ditto. From 'A Hammock in Every Room: Making a Home the Lazy Way' to 'Is There a Lazy Way to Heaven?: The Lazy Woman's Spiritual Journey,' the eight chapters in this book 'splain it all to you. Nothing is missed, from good cooking that doesn't take all day to sex to nurturing a marriage to parenting — is there a connection there somewhere? The huge – death, money, God — are mixed in with the merely day-to-day: having to get dressed in the morning (quoting Gilda Radner, "I base my fashion sense on what doesn't itch") and worrying that one doesn't have Cameron Diaz's thighs. This book is funny and necessary. Buy it. Give it. |
